About Religious Science
This spiritual community is based on the teachings of Dr.
Ernest Holmes, whose classic book, “The Science of Mind” was
first published in 1926. He described this teaching as “a correlation
of the laws of science, opinions of philosophy, and revelations of religion
applied to human needs and the aspirations of all.” This is a positive,
practical, and life-affirming teaching. We are recognized as part of the
New Thought movement.
We believe that there is one Universal Mind, which is common
to every person. We experience this Divine Presence, which many people
call God, as our conscious recognition of the power of Life flowing through
us. We are beings of thought and emotion, living in a physical universe
governed by Love and Law. The most obvious example is the Law of Cause
and Effect (“As you sow, so shall you reap.”) We all have
the power to choose where we will focus our thoughts, our energy and our
attention, and we have the power to choose which emotions we will let
control our heart and mind. We exercise this choice, and shape our life,
through techniques such as affirmative prayer and meditation.
About This Community
The Spiritual Living Center of Atlanta was founded in
1979 by Dr. Kennedy Shultz (1931 – 2000), and was chartered in that
year as a member church of Religious Science International. After 20 years
of dedicated ministry, Dr. Shultz retired in 1999. We are governed by
a Board of Trustees, elected by the membership, and our bylaws. The Senior
Minister is designated President of the Board. At the present time, we
have approximately 600 members.
Our Sunday Services are held at 10:00 and 11:30 with a Healing Meditation
between services. The services last about an hour, and our wonderful youth
program is held during the Second Service. Please join us for
coffee, tea and snacks after the service. We have an excellent metaphysical
bookstore, and tapes of all Sunday talks. We also offer classes
and seminars during the week, and a midweek service on Wednesday evenings
at our center offices. We have an annual spring retreat, a summer
picnic, and several other community events throughout the year.
Our Senior Minister, Reverend Paul Gonyea,
is supported by our Assistant Minister, four Staff Ministers, and
Licensed Practitioners.
We also have an office staff,
which is supported by our wonderful volunteers. Our Sunday
services have been in the Rich Auditorium at the Woodruff Arts
Center, 1280 Peachtree Street, for 25 years. Our offices
and classrooms are located at 2801 Buford Highway, Suite T-30.
If you have questions feel free to call the office at 404.417.0008
(Tuesday–Thursday) or send
us e-mail.
