HARRIET is the powerful story about Harriet Tubman, one of this country’s great heroes. Born into slavery, she escaped and subsequently used her enslavement not only to educate others and change the course of history, but she single-handedly rescued close to 100 others by returning multiple times to lead on the Underground Railroad. Harriet was known by many names, including “Moses.”
This movie, starring Cynthia Erivo, a phenomenal British actress, presents the dramatic life story of Harriet Tubman. Ms. Erivo has been nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actress for that performance. Unlike previous documentaries about Harriet Tubman, HARRIET focuses on her spirituality. It was her strong faith in God and accepting herself as a divine instrument that sustained her through all the brutality. Viewers will be amazed by the apparent “magic” and “miracles” surrounding her accomplishments.
Bring your beloveds, including your children (suggested age 12 and up). Stay for the discussion that follows.
